Harvey David Mumaw, 93, of Sarasota died March 1, 2012.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bayshore Mennonite Church in Sarasota. Services will also be held in Smithville, Ohio. Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his daughters Kay Schlabach of Sarasota, and Kathy Gerber of Harrisonburg, Va.; and brothers Walter of Sarasota, and Floyd of Wooster, Ohio; and 14 grandchildren.

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Harvey D. Mumaw, 93, formerly of Wooster, OH, died on Thursday, March 1, 2012, in Sarasota, Fla.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at the Oak Grove Mennonite Church, 7843 Smucker Road, Smithville. A private family burial will be at the Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 11, 4-7 p.m. at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville. Harvey David Mumaw was born on Jan. 21, 1919, in Wooster, the first born of Adam H. and Clara B.( Zook) Mumaw. Harvey graduated in 1938 from Wooster High School.
He attended Goshen College and then went into Civilian Peace Service, serving at Sideling Hill, Pa and Delaware State Mental Hospital.
Harvey married Mary E. Brubaker on Dec. 8, 1946. They were blessed with twin daughters, Marla Kay and Margaret Katherine, who completed their family.
Early on he owned and operated a milk route and later he delivered chips for New Era Potato. He also worked for his brother-in-law Arthur Brubaker as a Ford tractor mechanic spending many off time hours problem solving for area farmers. His final job before retirement was trucking for Walter Jones Construction. After his retirement, he moved to Florida where he loved chauffeuring persons here and there. He was a very active and social person and as a young adult he loved to play baseball and sing. He belonged to the Jaycees, served as a president of PTA many years and was active in Wooster Hobo's camping club. Harvey was a charter member of Wooster Mennonite Church and later a member at Oak Grove Mennonite Church in Smithville, Ohio where he taught Sunday School. After moving to Florida he attended Bay Shore Mennonite Church. In the later years of his life he was legally blind and credited Lighthouse for the Blind with teaching him skills to continue to live on his own.
Surviving are daughters Kay Schlabach of Sarasota, Fla., and Kathy Gerber and husband, Norm, of Harrisonburg, Va.; grandchildren Scott Schlabach and wife Natalia of Sarasota, Fla., Drew Gerber of Wooster, Troy Gerber and wife, Lisa, of Harrisonburg,Va., Brad Schlabach and wife, Amy, of Sarasota, Fla., Jodi Showalter and husband, Philip, of Lynchburg, Va., Mindy Schwartz and husband, Matt, of Harrisonburg, Va., and 14 great-grandchildren; and brothers Walter J. and his wife, Helen, of Middlebury, Ind., and Sarasota, Fla., Floyd E. and his wife, Ruth, of Wooster. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife of 52 years Mary, son-in-law Larry Schlabach and triplet granddaughters.
In the final days of his life, he wished to be an example to his daughters and grandchildren, he did not complain even in his discomfort and continued to use humor. The family wishes to thank the many persons who visited and called, showing acts of kindness and love to Harvey and his family.
