Lieut. Commander Sprenkel
Lieut. Commander Edward E. Sprenkel, who died Sunday morning at the Philadelphia Naval hospital, League island, after being
stricken in New Caldedonia, South Pacific islands, was a member of the U.S. Naval Mobile Hospital Unit No. 7, South Pacific. He was called to active duty by the Navy department, Jan. 5, 1942. He was 44 years old. The deceased was the son of Mrs. Mary Sprenkel, Jenkintown, and the late John F. Sprenkel, general manager of the York Water company for many years. He practiced medicine in Jenkintown, Pa., until his induction into service with the Navy. He graduated from the York High school in 1917 and received the Rensselaer Polytech medal at the commencement, and is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Medical school of the University of Pennsylvania. While practicing in Jenkintown, he was a member of the staffs of the Memorial hospital of Roxboro, the Abington Memorial hospital, Germantown Dispensary and Hospital and an instructor of otolaryngoloy at the University of Pennsylvania hospital. He belonged to the Artisans Order of Mutual Protection, was a fellow of the American Medical association and a member of the American Legion and the Free and Accepted Order of Masons, Friendship lodge, No. 400, Jenkintown. At college, he was a member of the Theta Delta Phi fraternity. He belonged to the church of our Savior, Protestant Episcopal church, Jenkintown. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Catherine Cary Sprenkel, 414 West avenue, Jenkintown; a daughter, Catherine Sprenkel, at home, and three brothers and sisters, Charles W. Sprenkel, Palmyra, N.J.; Charlotte Sprenkel, Washington, D.C.; and John S. Sprenkel, 181 East Springettsbury avenue, manager of the subcontract department of the York Safe and Lock company. Graveside services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at Prospect Hill cemetery.
