Clifford R. Moomaw
Clifford R. Moomaw, 85, of Sugarcreek died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, in Union Hospital.
Born May 24, 1919, in Sugarcreek, he was the son of the late Cyrus M. and Jennie Snyder Moomaw.
He retired from Moomaw Lumber Co. at Sugarcreek and served in the Navy on the USS Boston as Chief Coxswain Mate and during World War II in the South Pacific Theater. He was a lifetime member of Homer Weiss American Legion Post No. 494.
Clifford was a member of First United Church of Christ at Sugarcreek, past president of the Sugarcreek Rotary Club, a 50-year member of the Tuscarawas Lodge No. 59 F and AM of Dover, was a 32nd-degree Mason and a Shriner with the Tadmor Shrine of Akron. He received his commercial pilot license in 1953.
His wife, Maxine Andrews Moomaw, whom he married Oct. 5, 1940, survives. Also surviving are two sons, Dr. Ronald (Patty) Moomaw of Columbus and Drew (Angela) Moomaw of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Sandra J. Moomaw of Westerville and Darcie (John) DuBrule of Orlando, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Erika Moomaw, Erin Morgan, Jessica Moomaw, Derrick Moomaw and Jenna Moomaw, all of Columbus, Eric Morgan of Washington, D.C., and Jeanette DuBrule, Rochelle DuBrule, Julia Moomaw and Cyrus Moomaw, all of Orlando, Fla.; and one great-grandchild, Kyle Morgan of Washington, D.C.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Opal Maurer, Ina Moomaw and Rhea Cooper.
Services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2005, at 3 p.m. in Butler-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek and with Rev. Carlan Helgeson officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Sugarcreek American Legion. Calling hours are Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at First United Church of Christ at Sugarcreek.
