"THIS AND THAT"
Scrapbook 1983 - Bethany Public Library
Sandy Dorrell, postmaster at Eagleville ran away and left his wife and six children and was never heard from again. He was short in his accounts at the postoffice and his bondsman had to pay the loss. His wife died about six months after and his six children found good homes with families around the community.
Orlando (Sandy) Dorrell was married to Ida Mumma. Their children were: Katie, Lura, Dena, Gladys, Albert and Leo. Being deprived of both father and mother at an early age they found homes with people in the community. Lura lived in the home of Elizabeth Bridges. Dena lived in the home of Bill Anderson. She married Roy Smith. Gladys lived in the home of John and Jennie (Manor) Leeper. She married Jessie Beeks and lived on in the Eagleville community. Albert lived in south Missouri and under the name of Fred Gillen. He died in 1959 and the body was returned here for burial. Leo lived in St. Louis. Roy and Dena Smith made their home in Colorado. The mother was buried in Highland Cemetery in 1901.
