MRS. JENNIE(sic) HARKLESS OF MOLINE DIES

Services for Mrs. Jessie Harkless of 1856 14th Ave., Moline were held at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon in Wendt Brothers' funeral home in Moline. Burial was in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate. The request was made that in place of flowers, Memorials be made to the building fund of the First Methodist Church in Moline, or to the Rock Island County Cancer Society
Mrs. Harkless, the former Jessie I. Mumma, was born Sept. 4, 1882, in Bethlehem, Ia., a daughter of Wm. H. and Sarah E. Mumma. She was married to Charles E. Harkless on Thanksgiving Day, Nov 28, 1912 in the home of her father, Wm. H. Mumma in Bethlehem, Ia. He died June 8, 1942.
Mrs. Harkless was a member of the First Methodist church, the Women's Society, the Philathea Society of the same church; the auxiliary of the Spanish-American War Veterans, and the Pioneer and Old Settlers Association of Rock Island County.
Surviving are two sons, John, of Seattle, Wash., and Charles Dean, of North Ridge, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Ellen Lundahl of Moline, and Mrs. Mary Agatucci, of Chula Vista, Calif.; five grandchildren; a brother, Emanuel Mumma of Charitan, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Davis of Farn Mamvilla, Ia., and Mrs. Ethel Goodell of Corydon, Ia.; also a foster brother and first cousin, W. S. Wake of San Diego, Calif., and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers.
When a child of a few month of age, at the death of her mother, she was taken by her aunt, Mrs. Nancy Mumma. In 1884 she attended the wedding of her aunt to Casius Wake of Port Byron, and went into the new home with them where she lived until her marriage.
She attended Adelphia school and later went to school in Moline. Before her marriage and since the death of her husband, she travelled a great deal. her life has been an inspiration to all who knew her. and she will be greatly missed
Those attending the funeral from a distance were John Harkless and his sister, from Mommette, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. William Davis of Park Ridge, Ill., her son, John of Seattle, Wash., and daughter, Mary of California.
