Mary Mumma Dies in Dayton
August 1; Interred in Florida
Mary (Merley) Homan Mumma, age 65, of 5101 Glade court, Cape Coral, Fla, formerly of Dayton and Lewisburg, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, at Miami Valley hospital in Dayton after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Mumma, the daughter of Marks and Gertrude Homan, was born in Lewisburg, and graduated from the local high school. She attended Wittenberg college and taught in the Lewisburg elementary schools for three years prior to her marriage to Charles E. Mumma in 1932.
The Mummas moved from Dayton to Lewisburg in 1935 when Dr. Mumma began his medical practice here. Mrs. Mumma was named the first librarian of Brown Memorial library when it opened its doors to the public on Sept. 28, of 1935.
The couple moved back to Dayton in 1940 and remained there until their retirement in 1971 to Florida.
Mrs. Mumma was a Sunday school teacher at Belmont United Methodist church in Dayton for 25 years, former president of Christian Women's United in Montgomery county, secretary for five years of social concerns of Miami branch of the Former EUB church women's society of world service. She was a member of Delta Theta Tau sorority and the cape Coral United Methodist church, Fla.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Moses (Gwen) Gunn, of New York City, NY, and Mrs. Joseph A. (Carla) Massengill of Dayton; a son, Dr. John V. Mumma of San Antonio, Tex.; a brother, Walter L. Homan of Winter Haven, Fla; and four grandchildren.
Services for Mrs. Mumma were held Sunday, Aug. 4, at Belmont United Methodist church in Dayton with Pastor George S. Brown officiating. Funeral arrangements were made by the Tobias funeral home of Dayton. Interment was in *Ft. Meyers Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made to the Belmont United Methodist church Memorial fund. *
*Later returned and buried in Roselawn Cemetery in Lewisburg in 1987.

Accomplishments: She was a church organist, Sunday School teacher for 26 years at Belmont United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer driver for the Dayton handicapped people. She was the first librarian, in 1935, for the newly opened Brown Memorial Library, salary $15.00 a month.
