Notes:
James came to U.S. in 1844 with his mother, brother and six sisters. They came by way of the St. Lawrence Seaway stopping in Chicago when it was still a small town. They came on down the Mississippi River where they settled in Adams Co. Ill. James became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. on 5 April 1860 in Adams Co. The record is on file at the courthouse in Quincy, Illinois. Other members of the family remained in Adams Co but James and his family moved to Grundy Co. Missouri in 1865 where the family remained. James was converted to the Christian faith and became a minister in that church denomination, serving churches in Adams, Pike and Hancock counties in Illinois then Grundy and Livingston counties in Missouri.
