Jeanette Mumma Obituary
KEARNEY ? Jeanette Mumma, 75, of Kearney died on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Kearney, with the Rev. Eric Lesher officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at O?Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney and one hour before the service at the church.
Mrs. Mumma was born on Oct. 13, 1939, in Superior to David and Olive (Gardiner) Genung.
She married Charles Mumma on June 29, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Nelson. He preceded her in death.
Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Nita and Kim Deyo of Kearney; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Donnis Genung of Superior and Russell and Donna Genung of Deshler; and a sister and brother-in-law, Gwen and Gayle Johnson of Davenport.
Also surviving are two grandsons, Keith Deyo of Elm Creek and Jarad Deyo and his wife, Wendy, of Kearney; two granddaughters, Haley Deyo and McKenzie Deyo, both of Elm Creek; and many nieces and nephews.
She grew up and received her education in the Nelson area and graduated from Nelson High School in 1958. She attended Trenton, Mo., Junior College and Southeast Missouri University. She worked for Mass Mutual Insurance in Lincoln while Charles was attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She worked for Cattle National Bank in Seward until her daughter, Nita, was born.
She was church secretary for the Methodist Church in Republic, Mo. She worked for Aid Association for Lutherans in Bismarck, N.D., and served as a committee clerk for the North Dakota legislature. She helped out at Chuck?s Country Market until her health prevented her from doing so. She served on many church committees as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader and sang in numerous church choirs. She was a past president of Alma Jaycees, a member of the PEO in Mandan, N.D., and a member of the Grand Island Optimist Club, where she served on the board of directors.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by both parents and a brother-in-law, Robert Samsula.
