This is the top person of this branch. He and his descendants are listed as "unattached" line U53. He appears in Bullskin Township of Fayette County of Pennsylvania in the early 1790's where he purchases land with his wife, Elizabeth. Here they raise their family of four girls and two boys. About 1812, Jacob and Elizabeth sell their holdings and emigrate to Tuscarawas Township of Stark Co., OH and patent 160 acres of land which is filed in the Canton, Ohio land office. All of the children marry, however the boys produce no offsprings so the Mumma/Mumaw name is not carried forward. This information and the large number of descendants of Jacob were provided by one of his descendants, Kay Rybak. In Richard Huffman's 1962 book, researchers incorrectly assumed that this Jacob Muma/Mooma of Bullskin Township was the same person as Jacob Mumma, the son of George Muma. This new information establishes that Jacob Mumma, the son of George Muma, only had one wife by the name of Barbara Noftsinger.
When reviewing the possible candidates as the father of Jacob, the evidenc strongly suggest one of two people. One would be Jacob Mumma, b. 1715 and son of the immigrant progenitor, Jacob Mumma. The other possibility would be as the son of the immigrant, Johann Lorentz Momma. It is known that Johann had children before he died in 1753, but none have been identified.
If you have a copy of Richard's book, I have created a revised page 46 for his book. While many other pages would also require changes, this is the main page that discusses Jacob. You may download a copy of this revised page in WORD format from my MUMMA archives by double clicking on this link. It should initiate a download of the file.
