In the 1880 Census, Edward is listed by his nickname "Eddy." By 1910, he was married to Beatrice and is listed in the Birmingham City Directory as living at 1026 North 31st. He was employed as an engineer at Continental Gin Company which was a manufacturer of cotton gins. In 1920, he was living with his family at 607 22nd Street in Birmingham. He was a machinist with the railroad. In 1915, he was a machinist living at 605 North 48th Street in Woodlawn (North Birmingham). By 1945, according to a postcard included in daughter Ann's photographs, he was living at 6019 GA Road, Birmingham. Ann remembered that after he went bald all the children loved to kiss his head.
Edward Jones' death certificate lists his occupation as railroad machinist. Address: 2508-A 6th [or 60th] Avenue, North. Date of Death: 8/2/1950, 10:35 am. Place: Hargis Clinic, B'ham. Father: Zacharias Jones. Mother: Francis Elizabeth Bowden. Informant: John E. Jones. Cause: cerebral tumor undetermined, due to arteris sclerosis. Other conditions: chronic nephritis. Burial: Forest Hill Cemetary, B'ham.
Edward Chilton Jones obituary was published in the Birmingham News on August 4, 1950:
"Last rites for Edward Chilton Jones, 74, of 2508 Sixth Avenue, N, who died Wednesday at a local hospital, were held this morning. Services were held at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Chapel, with the Rev. James S. Cantrell officiating. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetary. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Beatrice Holland Martin Jones; 2 sons, Victor Jones, Middletown, CT, and John E. Jones, Birmingham; 3 daughters, Mrs. Leon Wildsmith, Memphis; Mrs. William E. Giddens, Jr., Learned, Miss., and Mrs. Lee Morris, Birmingham; a sister, Mrs. Laura Foster, Pell City; three brothers, Walter Jones and George and Charley Bowden, Bessemer; and nine grandchildren."
