His birth year is estimated from the 1850 census. This name is documented in various Internet genealogies and he had a fairly large number of sons, but this spelling of the surname barely survives today. A search of the Internet telephone directories reveals that only six people use that surname and all of those have been identified as descending from Robert Moomaugh. He was listed in the Cherokee Land Lottery of 1838. Emanuel married Martha Hayes who was born 28 Oct 1803 in Virginia. Her death date unknown. Mother Phoebe Hill, father Hiram Hayes.

"Believe it or not, I found another marriage for Emanuel. It was to Orpha Davis of S. Carolina on 5/24/1853. That leads credence to my belief that the family broke up after his first wife, Martha, died around 1851. I also found an 1860 census of Terrell Co. listing for John with a wife, Fanny A.,22; Anna C., 9 mo; William A. Moomaugh, 17; Emanuel H, 16; and Jonas C., 11. ( I guess William lived with John when he wasn't at school. ) I found a listing for Calhoun Co. for 1870, that has a Joseph Monaugh living with Henry Hayes. I guess this is James

Moomaugh was the administrator of the estate of Jonas Moomaugh. It said that E. H. Moomaugh married Annie Mulkey on 8 September 1870. The October 27, 1870 paper announced that Henry Hayes filed his petition for letters of dismission from the estate of Emanuel Moomaugh, late of Terrell County. Then, Mrs. A. E. Moomaugh applied for "exemption of personalty" and setting apart and valuation of homestead on Jan. 25, 1871. There was a sheriff's sale in Mar., 1871- it said a horse and a mule were levied as the property of R. H. Moomaugh in favor of John A. Fulton. And in Jan., 1873, a sheriff's sale-"property of Emanuel Moomaugh in favor of Ms. P. A. Jones ( this is daughter, Phoebe). In papers dated 1873-1876, E. Moonaugh, a freedman was listed as having unpaid taxes
