Funeral services for Jerry W. Moomaw, 30, of Daniels will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Owen Lilly and Rev. J. W. Nunn. Burial will follow in the Worley Cemetery at Daniels.
Moomaw died at 11:15 a.m. Monday in a local hospital where he apparently committed suicide, according to a hospital spokesman. He had been hospitalized two weeks ago for an operation. He had again become ill Saturday at Woodrow Wilson High School.
Moomaw was known both locally and at state levels for his efforts in the field of conservation. A graduate of Concord College, he was an instructor in biology and developed an ecology course that placed Woodrow Wilson as one of the first schools in West Virginia to offer classes in conservation education.
He was a sponsor of the Woodrow Wilson High conservation club which gained state and national recognition under his direction.l Before coming to Woodrow Wilson in 1968, Moomaw taught school in Jackson and Clay counties.
He was a member of the Cancer Society and the West Virginia Education Association.
Moomaw is survived by his parents, Wayne Moomaw of Meadows Court and Mrs. Geraldine Bower of Daniels; his step-father, Clarence Bower, and a sister, Mrs. Connie Mills of Daniels.
The family requests that donations be made to the Woodrow Wilson High School Conservation Club.
Pallbearers will be Paul D. Smith, Carson Meade, Ronnie Sullivan, Charles T. Darlington, Neal Lacy, Terry Tankersley, Brian Lilly, Emmette Hurt and George and Larry Whitlock.
