Mrs. Florence Emily Mumaw, 63, of Onaga, died June 2, at Golden Acres Nursing Home where she had been a resident since March 1969. She was born August 12, 1906, at Concordia, Ks.
She was a member of Progress Chapter Order of Eastern Star, at Parsons, Ks., and a member of the WSCS of the Linwood United Methodist Church of Kansas City, Mo. She was also active in Girl Scout work in Kansas City, Mo.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Otis J. Mumaw, 4609 E. 39th, Kansas City, Mo.; her mother, Mrs. Mary Wilkerson, Concordia; one brother, John Wilkerson, Concordia; three sisters, Miss Mary Wilkerson, Concordia; Mrs. Kathryn Bean, Newton, and Mrs. Mildred Greenwood, Marsing, Idaho.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Onaga Congregational church with burial at Onaga cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation at Tessendorf Mortuary.
OBITUARY 11 JUNE 1970
Florence Emily Mumaw, the daughter of James and Mary Wilkerson, was born August 12, 1906 at Concordia, Ks.
She was united in marriage to Otis Jesse Mumaw on August 26, 1920 at Holton, Ks. There were no children born to this union.
Emily was the cashier of the Grand Theater in Topeka during the years of the large road shows and later served as financial secretary for the First Presbyterian Church in Topeka. She was a Girl Scout leader and a volunteer -- accumulating many service hours as a nurse's aide at the hospital at Parsons, Ks. during World War II.
She was active as a Life Patroness in the music sorority, Sigma Alpha Iota, at the Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, Ks.
She was a member of the Progress Chapter of Eastern Star in Parsons, Ks. Emily was a member of Linwood United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Mo. and had been given a life membership in the Women's Society of Christian Service of that church.
Until her health began to fail about 17 years ago, she was very active in church and community work and give willingly and unselfishly of her time to help others.
Even during her later years of severe pain and limited activity she remained cheerful and was an example of faith, hope and trust.
During her last four years at home she had been cared for by Mrs. Lucille Bush but finally required more care and attention than could be given in the home, and entered Golden Acres Rest Home in Onaga 15 months ago where she received excellent care.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Otis J. Mumaw, her mother, Mrs. Mary Wilkerson; a brother, John Wilkerson, Concordia; three sisters, Miss Mary Wilkerson, Concordia; Mrs. Mildred Greenwood, Mansing, Ida., and Mrs. Katherine Bean, Newton, Ks.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to the floral trubutes and many cards already received, the faculty of Lincoln High School of Kansas City, Mo. has made a sizeable contributions in her memory to the Arthritis Foundation.
