John M. Witters was born 2 August 1878, in Jeffersonville, Wayne, Illinois, and died at his home one and one-half miles south of Waldron, Harper, Kansas, in Oklahoma, 27 June 1906, aged 27 years, 10 months, and 25 days. He joined the M.E. Church about the age of 14 years, came to Oklahoma in the year 1899, was married to Laura Althouse 27 September 1899. To this union was born five children, three sons and two daughters. Mr. Witter had been in poor health for about one year and his last sickness was of short duration, his suffering seemed unbearable, but he bore it with patience. He was a kind and affectionate husband and father, son and brother, always ready and willing to help all in times of troubles. His funeral took place at the Waldron Congregational church and his body laid to rest in the Waldron cemetery to await that great resurrection morn. He leaves a wife, mother, two sisters, five children and a host of friends to mourn their loss, all of whom were at the funeral except one sister, Mrs. Grace Bobbett, of Lincoln, Illinois. The funeral services were conducted by Reverend Rador of the M.E. church.
