Laura was known primarily as Marie or "Sis" and was the wife of Jess Payne Moomaw (2217661), She died on her birthday on December 7, 2001 at age 92. She was secretary for the Harris County (TX) Commisioners Court for 32 years, from 1939 to 1971. She was an avid card player who participated in everything from poker to blackjack to bridge and canasta. Her siblings called her "Sis". The name stuck and later her grandchildren referred to her as "Sissy". She was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston.
