LaRue L (Slicker) Mumaw, of Kiski Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home.
Born April 19, 1933, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was one of twin daughters to the late Jim Slicker and Helen Bash. LaRue was an Apollo native, graduate of Apollo High School, attending the Bloomsburg State College for 1 year and quit to marry and raise her family.
She attended the Mason Felix Beauty Academy, received her Cosmetology license and proudly worked in her shop as a beautician for 50 years. She loved her career and her customers were like family.
LaRue was extremely talented as an artist, seamstress and baker. She enjoyed creating poems and reciting those she cherished. She crocheted afghans for friends, family and patients at Hillsdale Nursing Home. In her earlier years she participated in one of the local bowling leagues and was also President of the Junior Women's Club. Her family was her pride and joy and she enjoyed every cookout, dinner and holiday spent with them. She was musically inclined, played the organ and ukulele. LaRue enjoyed singing and harmonizing with sister, LaVonne, their favorite tunes and hymns.
She was a firm believer in the power of prayer and an active member of the United Presbyterian Church. She also shared many memories with partner Cecil Shaffer and close friends Jack and Lorraine. Favorite past times included playing cards, shopping trips and bus trips to the Casino and enjoying delicious meals at Flavios.
Over the years she enjoyed family camping trips to Canada and Tionesta on weekends and more recently RV trips to Kinzua and Cook Forest with her daughter, Susan and beloved dog, Max. LaRue enjoyed western movies and playing on her IPad.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by devoted, loving husband, John Mumaw Jr, loving twin sister, LaVonne Morgan, partner for 39 years, Cecil Shaffer, Grandson, Eric Chierici
son-in-law, Tom Ralph and William Mumaw, brother-in-law.
LaRue is survived by her children, Beth Vida (Jim), Peggy Schirato (Dan), Susan Ralph, Karen Sheaffer (Brian) and John Mumaw (Tina). As well as her grandchildren, Tara Fraser (Ricky), Sam Sheaffer (Danielle), Leah Byron (Josh), Kayla Stauber (Jesse), John Mumaw, and Ashley Heasley (Evan), and Zach Feulmer (Courtney).
She is also survived by 13 beautiful great grandchildren, Macie Chierici, Landon and Isla Fraser, Eloise and Camilla Sheaffer, Jett and Rex Stauber, Archer and Tatum Heasley and Owen, Ryder, Colbee and Rorey Feulmer. Also, sister-in-law, Shirley Mumaw and numerous family members including cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 26, 2024 from 3:00-7:00pm in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 100 Owens View Ave. Apollo. Services will be Friday, December 27, 2024 at 11:30am in the funeral home with Pastor Lee Rupert officiating. Private burial in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
The family is especially grateful for the special bond and constant companionship of Brooke, LaRue's caregiver these last months.
