The following information per Roy Wesley Mumaw:
While "Stauffer" was his father's middle name, it was his father's mother's maiden name. Logic & tradition would indicate that Wesley Stauffer Mumaw and Mary May Stickel would have used her (Stickel) maiden name for my grandfather's middle name; however, when asked by me about what the middle initial stood for (in the early 70's), my grandfather acknowledged that he never knew what it was for (though he thought it might have been his mother's maiden name) and _never_ used other than the middle initial. Therefore, other than possibly on the birth certificate, he was always known to the world as "Roy S. Mumaw". (I know that he sometimes signed his name: Roy "S." Mumaw - with the quotes added by him; he said it was so as to indicate that the "S" didn't stand for any name).
