VAILE - William P.
VAILE - William P., 86, died in Loris, S.C., Sept. 12, 2006. Born July 22, 1920, in Patton, son of the late Martin J. and Alice (Bolents) Vaile. His wife, Frances Bowers Vaile, died in 1995. Survivors include daughter, Ellen V. Copper, and husband, Lee L., State College; two granddaughters, Laura Copper (Brian) Alterio and Lisa Copper (Shawn) Gross; two great-grandchildren, Pauline Alterio and Ian Gross; sister, Eleanor Hite and brother, John R, Vaile, both of Wilmington, Del. Bill retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. in 1981 and moved to Calabash, N.C. in 1984, with his wife, Fran. He was an avid golfer, playing in the 1953 U.S. Open and winning numerous championships at Summit Country Club, Cresson; North Fork Country Club; and Sunnehanna Country Club. More recently, he was a member of the Carolina Shores Country Club in North Carolina. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Yellow Creek Cemetery, Bedford County, Father Bernard White officiating.
