Henry Mumaw /Moomau was the father of this John Henry Moomau, and the son of Christian and Elizabeth Walker Mumaw. This was difficult to determine as I searched many years. The spelling of the name kept me in doubt. The proof was in the 1850 census in Barbour Co Va. was this Henry Mumaw and wife Lee Ann, which was not a common name at that time. the children were Sarah Elizabeth, and Christian. This family had moved to Douglas Co Ill where they raised broom corn. I have no idea why the spelling was changed to Moomau unless it was because there was another family by the name of Moomau who lived in the next county, also Henry probably could not spell
