Luther D. Moomaw Sr., , 99, of Gladwin, died Sunday, Oct. 24, at Hillside Acres Nursing Home in WIllard, Ohio after a long illness. Born Sept. 28, 1900 in Orkney Springs, Va., he lived in Gladwin County since 1965 and previously lived in Attica, Ohio. Luther married Clara (Zimmer) Oct. 1, 1955 in Gladwin. She preceded him in death in 1998. He was previously married to Pearl M. (Bogart), who preceded him in death in 1980. He was a track man for the B.O. Railroad in Willard, Ohio, retiring in 1965 after 47 years.
Surviving are one daughter, Eunice and husband Donald Heisler of Brooksville, Fla.; one son, Luther Jr. and wife Darlene of Willard, Ohio; three stepdaughters, Armeda Cameron of Gladwin, Susan and husband William Kroll of Beaverton, and Lucille and husband Woodward Windover of Midland; one stepdaughter-in-law, Rose Steele of Beaverton; one stepson, Floyd and wife Doris Steele of Midland; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Margaret Moomaw of Attica, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dolores Ayres in 1980; a granddaughter, Clara Lynn Heisler; a son-in-law, Weldon Ayres in 1980; three brothers; and two sisters. Services will be held today (Wednesday) at 1 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home in Gladwin. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Gladwin.
