She was born November 9, 1927, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Robert J. and Sophia (Dahlin) Wampler.
She was the wife of Dr. John R. Mumma. They came to Ashtabula in 1959, where he established his dental practice and they raised their three daughters; Melanie (Mrs. Michael Wightman) of Amherst, Cynthia (Mrs. Richard Goellner) of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Elizabeth (Mrs. Tim Sabransky) of Cincinnati.
Mrs. Mumma attended Fairmont State College, Fairmont, Washington and graduated from Robert Morris Business College, Pittsburgh. She was an accomplished seamstress and a professional floral designer who often employed her talents and skills on behalf of church and community events.
She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church since coming to Ashtabula where she was a deacon and sang in the choir for many years. She also enjoyed membership in the Tourists Club and the ACC Women's Golf Association.
While her daughters were growing up, she was very supportive of all their endeavors--leading Girl Scouts, teaching Sunday School, sewing costumes, and eventually helping them establish and decorate their own homes.
In later years, she took great pride and joy in her grandchildren, Geoffrey and Teegan Wightman, Emma Sabransky and John Goellner.
