James B. Stockslager
James B. Stockslager, 76, of 18439 Woodside Drive, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at his home.
Born Nov. 26, 1920 in Sharpsburg, he was the son of the late Henry Paul and Mary Margaret Mongan Stockslager.
He was a 1938 graduate of Boonsboro High School and a 1940 graduate of Columbia Business College, Hagerstown.
He was employed by Maryland Correctional Institution, Hagerstown, as the employees training officer, retiring in 1973 after 25 years of service.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a life member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg, where he was a former member of the vestry and served in other capacities.
He was a member of Medairy Lodge 140, A.F.&A.M., Williamsport; Forest 95 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Hagerstown; BPO Elks Lodge 378, Hagerstown; Antietam Post 36 American Legion, Sharpsburg; Maryland Classified Employees Association and AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Orpha M. Mumma Stockslager, whom he married June 12, 1954; one sister, B. Marie Gladhill of Hagerstown; and one brother, I. Paul Stockslager of Sharpsburg.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Natalie S. Adams; and two brothers, Robert M. Stockslager and B. Lee Stockslager.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg. The Rev. Jack S. Scott will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.
