George H. Mumaw, former mayor of Middlefield, O., and president of G. H. & K. H. Mumaw, Inc., died yesterday in Lakeside Hospital. He was 74.
Mr. Mumaw was trustee emeritus of Mount Union College, a director of the First National Bank of Burton, O., and a board member of the First Methodist Church of Middlefield.
Born in Troy, O., he moved to Middlefield in 1925 with his wife, May, whom he married in 1909. He founded a feed and coal business which is now the building supply and feed company he headed.
A graduate of Mount Union College and a member of Sigma Nu fraternity there, Mr. Mumaw was an enthusiastic member of the college's alumni association. He planned to attend the 50th anniversary of his graduation in June.
He was a partner in MuMac, Inc., a firm of builders he founded in Middlefield in 1933 with Dr. G. W. McIlroy, and which built the Mumac theater, first motion picture theater in Geauga County. In 1949 the corporation built a five-store business block in downtown Middlefield.
Surviving Mr. Mumaw are a son, Kenneth H.; a daughter, Mrs. Eleanor McCuskey of Canton, and a brother. Four grandchildren also survive him.
Time and place of services is to be announced by the Russell funeral home, Middlefield.
