Larry Ray Fruits

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. -- Larry Ray Fruits, former resident of Kay County, entered into eternal peace and rest Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Blue Springs, Mo., after a short illness. He was 69. His family surrounded him with love as he left. He had been a resident of Blue Springs, Mo., for 25 years.
Larry was born Dec. 24, 1935, on a farm four miles west of Tonkawa, the son of Earl Edward and Floyd Geneve Mitchell Fruits. Larry graduated from Blackwell High School, class of 1953. He attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College, where he met his sweetheart, Genevieve "Genny" Mumma. They were married in the First Christian Church in Ponca City on Feb. 19, 1956.
Larry was employed in the finance industry. He retired in 1999 as an AVP with Mercantile Bank of Kansas City. He loved to read and had just recently finished reading the Bible from beginning to end. His other interests were travel and visiting with family and friends. Larry was a great communicator and always had just the right words for any situation. He was a deeply devoted husband, father and "Boompa." He was a Christian.
His parents and one sister, Bonnie Lou, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Elsie Genevieve; daughters, Kristy Kay Blick and husband Gerald J. Blick of Maple Grove, Minn., and Tammy Renee Dreiling and husband Brian G. Dreiling of Hays, Kan.; six grandchildren, Jacqueline and Catherine Blick, and Zachary, Jordan, Emma and Craig Dreiling; one great-granddaughter, Deleah Star Dreiling; his brother Jack Fruits and wife Connie of Oklahoma City; sister, Sharon DePriest and husband Ralph of Blackwell; and brother-in-law, David Mumma and wife Karen of Corinth, Texas.
The funeral will be held in the chapel of First Christian Church in Ponca City at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery in Tonkawa under the direction of Webb-Freer Funeral Home of Blue Springs, Mo. Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with a 6 p.m. prayer service to follow.
Casket bearers will be Gerry Blick, Brian Dreiling, Jack Fruits, Terry Fruits, David Mumma, Mark Mumma, Ralph DePriest and Bob Hart. Honorary bearers will be his much-loved grandchildren.
He will be missed every day.
