Marguerite Lucile "Peg" Reade, of Snohomish, WA, passed out of this life last week, June 28, 2007. She was 96.
A teacher all her life, she taught elementary school at Darrington and Arlington until her retirement in 1976. Blessed with an inquisitive mind and a sharp wit, she took delight in the eternal questions of life, love, existence, and especially, politics. She took particular glee in puncturing the pompous; it was hazardous to take oneself too seriously in her presence.
Peg was born in Carlyle, Montana, on January 10, 1911, the third of eight children born to Reverend A. E. and Jessie Landis. She received her teaching credentials from Otterbein College, Ohio, and her Masters degree at Western Washington College (now WWU) in Bellingham. She married Harold Reade in September of 1934, and they were married 55 years until his death in 1989.
Peg passed surrounded by three generations of family. She lived long enough to have the pleasure of seeing all three of her children move onto the same family property with her.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Moira and Ken Earl, Linda and Jim Waugh, and Doug and Teri Reade; as well as seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
We, her family, rejoice in her long and vital life. We give thanks to God for her generous spirit, joyous laughter, and indomitable courage. We were, and continue to be, blessed.
There will be a private family memorial service. Those who knew Peg and wish to honor her would do that best with a book donation to the local school library.
