PHOENIX, Ariz., July 11 --- Mrs. Alicia (sic) Muma, 50, of New York and Los Angeles, became despondent and took her own life because her son failed to invite her to his wedding, authorities announced today.
Mrs. Muma's body was found last night in a Phoenix hotel room. Officers said that the body was discovered by a maid who had been sent to investigate the source of cyanide fumes.
John R. Muma, the woman's son, will be married Tuesday in New York City, a note found beside the body said.
Mrs. Muma, widow of Allen (sic) J. Muma, Los Angeles life insurance executive, visited Phoenix frequently. She registered at a hotel here two days ago.
FATHER OF BRIDE-ELECT DENIES WOMAN SLIGHTED
NEW YORK, July 11. (U.P.) --- Reports that Mrs. Alicia (sic) Muma committed suicide in Phoenix because she had not been invited to the wedding of her son, John, were denied today by Charles F. Noyes, father of Edith Smith Noyes, the bride-to-be.
"Mrs. Muma had received an invitation to the wedding and the young people had sent her three telegrams urging her to be sure to attend," Noyes said.
He added that the couple would go through with their plans to marry tomorrow "just as Mrs. Muma would have had them to."
Noyes said Mrs. Muma had been in a highly nervous state for several months and that she had sent word regretting that her health made it impossible for her to attend the wedding.
