Dan graduated from UCLA and shortly after graduation, he and group of friends went swimming in the Kern River and drown, the day after graduation. Dan was one of the organizers of the "card tricks" performed at the half time of UCLA football games. Dan was a direct descendant of General Robert E. Lee.
