Dr. David Edwin Willis, age 87, passed away on February 2, 2014 in Richmond, TX. He was born March 13, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to Russell and Eleanor Willis. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a radio specialist aboard the US Swanson, a naval destroyer stationed in the Pacific. He worked for Keystone Exploration Company doodlebugging in Louisiana, Texas and California. He was a Professor of Geophysics, teaching and performing research at the University of Michigan and University of Wisconsin ? Milwaukee. He also consulted for the Department of Energy and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. His later work for UNOCAL Oil Company in California and Texas included exploration for international oil and gas resources. David was a member of Joy Lutheran Church in Richmond, TX and the president of Shade Tree Ministries.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen and brother and sister-in-law, Elbert and Peggy.
David is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Martha Willis; children- Mark and wife, Lynn, of Katy, TX; Marta and husband, Lou, of Arcadia, California; Seth and wife, Janet, of Cedar Park, TX and son-in-law Robert of Kingsville, TX; grandchildren-J.B., Jessica, Rebecca and husband Michael, Matthew, Kent and wife, Lindsay, Drew and Cailee; great grandchildren- Joshua and Summer, along with much loved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A 'Celebration of Life' gathering will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at Joy Lutheran Church, 717 FM 359 in Richmond, TX.
The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. also at Joy Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Christ officiating.
