She was christened "Annie" after her Uncle Oliver's wife, Annie, but she did not like it, so in college (Weslyan) she began signing her name as "Anna". She graduated from Ohio University at Athens Ohio and signed her name as "Ann" which she used for the rest of her life. "Ann" is the way her name is listed on her death certificate.
