Verta May (Mumaw) Stott, 93, of Genoa, died January 10, 2017 at Kishwaukee Hospital.
She was born in Odon, Indiana , on September 6, 1923 to Cullen B. and Mary C. (Humerickhouse) Mumaw. When she was 6 years old, her family moved to Mayfield Township on a farm. Attending rural grade school and graduated from Sycamore High School in 1943. She graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. While a student at St. Luke's she was a member of Nurse's Cadet Corps. She worked as a nurse in Chicago, Sycamore, Colorado Springs, and in DeKalb as the Plant Nurse at the Rudolph Wurlitzer Piano Factory.
She married Alfred E. Stott on June 21, 1952 at the Methodist Church in Sycamore.
She served 8 years as Neighborhood Chairman for KGK Girl Scouts in Sybaquay Girl Scout Council.
A lifetime member of the Eastern Star-Golden Star Chapter #359.
Survivors include her children, Karen (Joseph) Mack of Laguna Woods, CA, Dennis Stott of Ellsworth, IL, June (Steven) Kubasiak, and LuAnn (Michael) Dreska of Genoa, IL; 3 grandsons, Jacob (Shauna) and Joseph Stott, and James Dreska; 2 great grandchildren, Kairi and Cedric Stott; Jonathon Beasley and family; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; her parents, Cullen and Mary Mumaw; 2 brothers, Leo and Stanley Mumaw, and 3 sisters, Lucille Marshall, Thelma Sack, and Bonnie Cappello.
A special thank you to her friends and staff at Heritage Woods of DeKalb.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 14, from 9:00 to 11:00am at the Slater-Butala Funeral Home in Genoa. A celebration of life service will begin at 11:00am with Rev. Martha Brunell officiating. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family for a memorial bench at Mayfield, in care of Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main, Genoa, IL 60135.
