Pastor Ernest E. Mummau, age 73, of Quarryville, PA, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Essa Flory Hospice Center. He was the husband of Faye Hershey Mummau with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage in April of 2012.
Born in Mt. Joy, he was the son of the late Reist R. and Ruth Eby Mummau. Ernie was a Graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School, Class of 1957. He was ordained Pastor of Nickel Mines Mennonite Church in 1978 and served there for over 30 years. Ernie touched many lives as he served in various aspects of ministry, most recently completing 10 years as an overseer within The Biblical Mennonite Alliance. He was a farmer, salesman for Herr's Potato Chips, and for 33 years, he was a dairy nutritionist and mineral salesman representing Standard Nutrition Company. He was known as an optimist and encourager who invested in the lives of his family and others. He also enjoyed biking with his wife and playing the piano.
In addition to his wife, he will be missed by his 3 children: Ronald L., husband of Beverly K. Harnish Mummau of Quarryville, Robin R., wife of Timothy T. Stauffer of Palmyra, Donna L., wife of Loren L. Yoder, of Choix, Mexico; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; and 4 siblings: Reist E., husband of Sherri Mummau of Thomas, OK, Lee E., husband of Joyce Mummau of Harrisonville, PA, Virginia E., wife of Raymond Seigrist of Brownsfield, ME, Carolyn E., wife of Landon Beachy of Kalona, IA; and a sister-in-law, Glenice Mummau. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Richard, husband of Darlene Mummau of Mt. Joy and James, his twin who died at birth.
A memorial service will take place at the Mellinger Mennonite Church, 1916 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, on Monday, March 18th, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Leon Martin officiating. The interment will be private in the Nickel Mines Mennonite Cemetery prior to the memorial service. There will be a viewing on Sunday at Mellinger Mennonite Church from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be no viewing on Monday. The family will greet friends on Monday following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ernie's memory to Gideons International, PO Box 163, Strasburg, PA 17579.
