Cassel C. Mummau
Cassel C. Mummau, 87, of Mount Joy passed away on Friday, December 31, 2010 at ManorCare Nursing Center, Elizabethtown. He was married to Jean Bollinger Mummau for 66 years.
Born in the Manheim area, he was the oldest child of the late Jacob R. and Mable Cassel Mummau.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeffrey L. (Marcia S.) Mummau, Elizabethtown and Doran L. Mummau, Akron; three sisters, Lorrayne C. (Harold) Jones, Bedford, Esther C. Baker, Cabot, and Mable C. (John) Hershey, Marietta; and a brother John C. (Dorothy Neff) Mummau, Shippensburg.
Cassel was employed by Young Minerals and Cargill, Inc., Lancaster, retiring in 1986. As a salesperson, he won numerous awards. Previously he worked for Florin Farms, Mount Joy. After retirement, Cassel enjoyed buying things at sales and reselling them at flea markets. A lifelong member of Florin Church of the Brethren, Mount Joy, he participated in the Church of the Brethren Disaster Relief Ministries and served on the Camp Swatara Board and Monarch Camp Staff. Cassel also actively volunteered with the Heifer Project International and one time served as a Heifer cowboy, accompanying cattle to the Middle East. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. Cassel loved traveling with his family, visiting most of the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East. He also enjoyed leading snowmobile trips to Yellowstone Park as well as hiking and camping trips to the Grand Canyon. Cassel was always an advocate for his mentally handicapped son.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Cassel?s funeral at Florin Church of the Brethren, 815 Bruce Ave., Mount Joy on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the Church from 10 until 11 a.m. Interment is private in West Green Tree Cemetery.
