OBIT: Long time news correspondent Helen J. Arnold died yesterday ( Tuesday) morning at a Lincoln Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Arnold, who was 84 years old in Nov., has been the Dorchester correspondent for The Crete News for 25 years, since 1965. Her newspaper background had also included typesetting, between 1924, the year she graduated from Friend High School, and 1926. She had also been kitchen supervisor for the girls' training school in Geneva and had worked at the Friend nursing home, Dorchester Cafe, Border Inn and Doane College." This was in the Crete Newspaper.
The following was written by Marvel Kasl:
"This week we said goodbye to another very special person in our community, Helen Arnold. Helen's house was always open to everyone, be it neighbors, a special group each week for coffee or people bringing news, often times late Monday (which was usually me) or even Tuesday. She was always guarded by her faithful companion Missy. She always had children and grandchildren dropping
in and out and the toys and even a playpen were always out for the grandchildren. She enjoyed her flowers and many of us will remember her baby's breath. The little extras she did for everyone will be treasured by many and not forgotten. Helen, we will miss you, especially your voice, usually the first call Monday morning for me: "Do you have any news this week?" Well, now, I'll try to take your place, and only hope I can do half as well as you did."
