JOHN OSCAR SELL, 78 DIES AT HOSPITAL

John Oscar Sell of Erie, passed away at 8:50 Saturday night in the Rochelle Hospital where he had been a patient for two days.
A son of Jasper and Mary Mumma Sell, he was born in Hillsdale, Feb. 5, 1881, and was married to Tessie McConnell Dec. 21, 1905, in Rock Island. Following their marriage they went to live in Kansas City, Mo., later returning to Hillsdale where they purchased the Kendell farm in Canoe Creek Township. On retiring from farming they moved to Hillsdale where they bought property, and where Mr. Sell was employed for a number of years as custodian of the High School there.
They left Hillsdale around 1945, going to Rochelle to reside. A few years ago they went to live in Erie, where they purchased a home and which place he lived until his death.
Surviving is his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Georgia Brooks of San Gabriel, Calif.,and Mrs. Genevieve Caspers of Rochelle, and two grand children. he was preceded in death by a son, Chester, Oct. 10 1943; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held at 2 Tuesday afternoon in the Dailey Chapel in Port Byron, with the Rev. Eugene Talbot of the Erie Christian Church officiating. Burial was in Bethesda Cemetery at Hillsdale.
Pallbearers were Wesley McConnel, Glenn Erdmier, Ralph Sell, Homer Sell, Glen McConnel and George Hines.
Miss Sheila Wilkinson provided organ music.
