Bernice Elizabeth Mumma, 78, of Rockford was heaven-bound at 10:35 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, in the home of her niece, Darlene Pace, after a short illness. Born Aug. 5, 1922, in Rockford, the daughter of Frank and Myrtle (Ericksen) Mumma. Graduate of West High School, Class of 1940. Employed by J.I. Case for 18 years and for 25 years at City Hall, from where she retired. Member of National Catholic Society of Foresters. She loved to travel, read and work in her flower garden. Auntie Beece was a very special lady and caregiver to many people. She was always there to help anyone in need. She gave to many charities worldwide. She will be greatly missed by her nephew, Jack (Betty) Mumma niece and caregiver, Darlene Pace niece, Rosemary (Norman) Hansing eight great-nephews and -nieces and 11 great-great-nephews and -nieces. Predeceased by parents, brothers John and Leo and sister, Delores. Special thank yous to Dr. Thomas, Dr. Baxter and Fran in unison. Also, special thanks to Northern Illinois Hospice: Chris, Pat, Martha and all the volunteers.
Services at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, in Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home, 304 N. Fifth St., with Father William Wentink, chaplain of OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, officiating. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Northern Illinois Hospice, Winnebago County Animal Services or charity of choice.
