Jon D. Swift, ?Coach Swifty? age 74 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died on Sunday, April 15, 2012 after a long and courageous 7 year battle with scleroderma and lung cancer.
Memorial funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Craig Wolfgram officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service at 10:30 A.M.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Carthage College Chapel (2001 Alford Drive, Kenosha, WI, 53140) on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at 1:00 P.M.
Jon was born July 29, 1937 in Forreston, Illinois the son of Gordon and Dorothy (Mumma) Swift. He received a B.A. degree from Carthage College and a Master?s Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jon married his college sweetheart, Mary Newell in 1960. He was a professor, coach and head athletic trainer at Carthage College from 1960 to 1996. Jon coached tennis, cross country, basketball and golf. Jon established an Athletic Training program at Carthage where the Athletic Training Center is named in his honor. Recently friends of the ?Coach? have established an endowment scholarship in his name with the first recipient to be named next month. Jon retired in 1996 where he and Mary lived at Jordon Lake. Jon loved to fish and take pontoon boat rides with friends and family.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church or the Jon Swift Endowment Fund at Carthage College.
Jon leaves behind his loving, devoted wife Mary; sons, Dave, Doug and Dan (Gail); sisters, Shirley and Sue; brother, Jim; grandchildren, Michael, Max, Sydney, Spencer, Noah and Tyler and his one faithful friend, Jordon.
