Thomas J. Mumma, 89, Hagerstown, MD, died Thursday July 13, 2006 at the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, MD.
Born December 9, 1916 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Jacob B. and Sally R. (Widmyer) Mumma. He was the husband of the late Susan L. (Forsyth) Mumma who died February 1, 1995.
Thomas, a life resident of Washington County, retired from the Western Maryland Railroad with more than 37 years of service.
He was a member of the Western Maryland Railroaders, the United Transportation Union and AARP. He was also a Charter Member of the Church of the Holy Trinity, all of Hagerstown.
Thomas is survived by a son, Thomas J. Mumma, a grandson, Daniel N. Mumma, a step sister, Mary Bendell, all of Hagerstown, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Thomas was preceded in death by two brothers, Jacob "Dewey" Mumma and Elwood "Red" Mumma, a step brother, Robert Wiseman, two sisters, Sarah Obniski and Nellie May, and a step sister, Margaret Rowland.
The funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Timothy Leighton will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Holy Trinity, 17805 Oak Ridge Dr., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
The Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, Bryan K. Kenworthy P.A., 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown has been entrusted with the arrangements.
