"They settled on Walnut Creek, Ohio. From there moved to Daviess Co., IN, in 1859, and in 1863 to Dekalb Co., IN. In 1864 they bought and cleared a farm in LaGrange County, on which they built a log house. From there they moved to Isabella Co., MI, took up a homestead which they cleared and sold in 1876. They then moved to Manistee Co., MI, where they now (1890) live."
In the 1850 census, Abraham, age 17, is listed as living with a Peter F. Showalter, age 33 and his wife, Mary, also age 33. The way the information was recorded, it suggested that Abraham was likely Peter's brother and not his child. Several researches have reported Abraham as the eldest son of Peter while others show both of them as sons of Henry Showalter which seems more likely. Peter Showalter's obituary make no mention of a son named Abraham.

Note: Abraham cannot be found in the 1900 census. His wife Hester is living with their son, Joseph. She is listed as being "married"
