BALLINGER - Arwilda
BALLINGER - Arwilda K. (Geisel), 70, Portland, Ore., died peacefully April
28, 2006, following a long struggle with Alzehimer's disease. Born Oct. 5, 1935,
in Windber, daughter of Herbert and Catherine (Holsinger) Geisel. Preceded in
death by parents and brothers, Robert F. Geisel, Kenneth M. Geisel and
Clinton H. Geisel. Survived by her loving husband, Donald; sons, Gregory L.,
Portland, and Bret F., Delafield, Wis.; daughter, Jennie Ballinger Taylor, Portland;
six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred A. Strunk,
Michigan; Addie Campbell, South Carolina, and Lydia Schaefer, Pittsburgh; and
brothers, Rodney L. Geisel, Bedford, and Dennis Geisel, New York. Arwilda lived a
life of service based on the convictions of her faith and was an active member
of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was known for her beautiful garden
and shared plant starts with friends. Arwilda opened her home to international
students, travelers and foster children, always creating a warm and welcome
home. Her needlework and paintings showed her creativity and great skill. A
celebration of Arwilda's life was held at 3 p.m. May 12 at Westminster
Presbyterian Church, 1624 N.E. Hancock, Portland. In honor of the rich and full life of
Arwilda Ballinger, her family ask those whose lives she touched to consider
making a remembrance contribution to the Heifer Project International, P.O. Box
8058, Little Rock, Ark. 77203-8058.
