EDWARDS, Josselyn Young
-----------------------
Josselyn Young Edwards Died peacefully August 25, 2006, at home in Ross after a long, brave battle against Parkinson's disease. Though his years were shortened, they were full. Joss was born May 12, 1930 in Boston, MA. He graduated from Deerfield Academy in 1948 and Williams College in 1952. Joss married Deborah Mumma on April 24, 1954, and they soon moved to Wayzata, MN, where he was the manager of molasses sales at Cargill Inc. His job took him all over the world, from pre-Castro Cuba and the Caribbean to Central and South America, Southeast Asia, Australia, and Europe. In October 1968, Joss became vice president of Pacific Molasses Co. in San Francisco, and the Edwards family moved to Ross. Joss left Pacific Molasses in 1982, consulting for both C&H Sugar Co. and ED&F Man, and then forming Pacific AgriFinance with Walter W. Minger. Joss loved
traveling with Deborah during their 49 years together. He was always patient, persistent, and prepared, whether in business, returning serve on the tennis court, or planting chardonnay on his 40 acres in Napa in the 1980s. His charitable activities included support of Canal Ministries in San Rafael. He was a trusted advisor to friends and family and his advice was invariably right. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Deborah Mumma Edwards. Devoted father of James H. Edwards of Sonoma, Stanley Edwards Solomon of San Francisco, and Lucy Phillips-Edwards of Ashland, OR; caring father-in-law of Deborah A. Edwards, Charles I. Solomon and James J. Phillips; cherished grandfather of Ashley, James, and Emily Edwards, Sophie and Joseph Solomon, and Noah Phillips-Edwards. Son of the late Hamilton Phelps Edwards and Mary Elizabeth Young of South Duxbury, MA. Joss was very close to brothers, H. Phelps Edwards, Jr. of Naples, FL and J. Nicholas Edwards of Wimberley, TX; and cousin, Elizabeth W. Edwards of Manchester, VT. He was an endearing uncle to 11 nieces and nephews in the Lord and Edwards families. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 9, at 11 AM at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Belvedere. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS-Richard Olney Foundation, c/o UCSF Foundation, UCSF Box 0248, SF, CA 94143-0248 in the name of Josselyn Y. Edwards.
