Ron, age 72, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2010, at Porter Hospital, Valparaiso. Born on June 23, 1938 in Bicknell, IN. He was a Valparaiso resident since 1969, formerly of Hobart, IN, attended Liberty Bible Church and Heartland Christian Center Church, a Barber for 17 years in East Gary, IN and Valparaiso, then a Millwright for 23 years at Midwest Steel in Portage, IN, served 2 years in the Army Reserves stationed in Virginia, coached for 10 years in the Liberty Township Recreation Little league, coaching both sons, Jeff and Ron, worked with the Liberty Township Boy Scouts Troop 904, loved all of the Chicago sports teams, especially the Chicago Black Hawks. In Ron's early years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, achieving the status of Expert Marksman in both pistol and rifle shooting. Survived by wife of 50 years, Karen R. (nee Havrilesko) Mumaw of Valparaiso, IN; children, Ron (Melissa) Mumaw of Noblesville, IN, Jeff Mumaw of Grand Rapids, MI, Diane (Bryan) Ruesch of Valparaiso, IN; grandchildren, Victoria, Elizabeth, Paige, and Hailey; mother, Mary Mumaw-Swift of Valparaiso, IN; brothers, Allan (Carol) Mumaw of Valparaiso, IN, Richard Mumaw of Hollywood, FL. Preceded in death by father, Eugene Mumaw; brother, Dick Mumaw of Connorsville, IN; step-dad, Dave Swift of Cape Corral, FL. Friends may call on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Dykes Funeral Home, 2305 N. Campbell St., Valparaiso, IN. The Funeral Service will immediately follow at 6:00 pm with Pastor Phil Willingham, officiating. Cremation, Calvary Crematory, Portage, IN. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
