Esther Pharis Scurfield Mumma died suddenly March 11, 2013. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 16, at 9:00 AM at the Venice Presbyterian Church, Venice.
Esther was born May 17, 1927, in Mt. Vernon, OH, daughter of Fred and Jessie Pharis. She was graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1946. She was married in 1948 to Dr. Burton Scurfield and was a long time resident of Harrisburg, PA, until his death in 1992. She became a permanent resident of her beloved Venice, FL thereafter and in 1996, she married Warren M. Mumma, who preceded her in death in 2007.
Esther is survived by her children, Thomas B. Scurfield of Matthews, NC., George H. Scurfield of Lewisburg, PA., and Jaqueline S. Paulsen of Hanover, NH., and 4 grandchildren, Grace, Martin, Burton, and Kate, and sister, Catherine P. Kearns of Ashland, OH.
Esther was an active member of the Women's Club of Pinebrook South Venice as treasurer, and a member of the Venice Presbyterian Church. Esther's great passion was her sewing and embroidery work, and she attended many craft shows, but she enjoyed chatting with the people she met more than selling her wares. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
