James Washington Owen's parents were William Michael Owen from Kentucky, Dec 1834 and Susan Elizabeth [Davolt] Owen from Tennessee, Aug 1836 [East Virginia]. They were married in 1855. His father being from the south, had been a Confederate Soldier, enlisting in 1864. James' grandparent's Mary C. and James C. Owen had purchased, by cash sale, land at the U.S. Land Office in Milan, Macon County, Missouri, on 10 Oct 1859, Township: 58-North, Range: 16-West, Section: 06. They lived near/in Russell, Macon, Missouri.
James was born in Macon County, Missouri, 14 Jan 1859. He was about 76 years old when he died in Jerome, Jerome, Idaho, on 10 March 1936. He was married to Nellie J. Owen. He was buried in Twins Falls Cemetery, Twin Falls, Twin Falls, Idaho.
In 1900 U.S. Federal Census, James was single and farming in Kansas with his elderly parents and one brother, Herbert D. Owen, born in Missouri, in Jul 1872.
The 1910 U.S. Federal Census for Blaine, Lane, Kansas, shows that James was married to Nellie Jane [Mumma] Owen and they have a 3 year old child, a daughter, Louise.
The 1920, 1930 U.S. Federal Census years this small family will grow adding several more children and moving to Jerome, Jerome, Idaho and also being connected to Twin Falls. Where there was plenty of farmers and land.
