"Three Deaths at Syracuse"

Philip Mumaw
Philip Mumaw, a resident of Syracuse, for quite a number of years but who of late years resided with his daughter, Mrs. Stanley Holter of Morning Star, passed quietly away Jan. 30, 1902, of pneumonia, having been ill about a week. Mr. Mumaw was born Feb. 13, 1827, at Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, was married to Elizabeth [illegible]ne Beach at Shendandoah, Va., in 185[?] to which union were born 8 children, five of whom survive him: John William, David A., and Thomas of this place, and Mrs. Wilbur Duskey of Blatchford and Mrs. Stanley Holter of Morning Star. His first wife having died May 10, 1866, he again united in marriage to Susan Knight in Jackson county, Virginia in 1868. One child was born to this union, Mrs. Edward Kennedy of Felicita, O. His last wife died Oct. 13, 1886. He was a good honest and upright citizen and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was 74 years, 11 months and 19 days old at the time of his death. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. E. Smith of Racine at the Syracuse Presbyterian church, Saturday at 1 o clock and his remains were interred in the Carleton cemetery, followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends.
