Born in Illinois, moved with his parents to Saskatchewan where they operated a wheat farm. He was a school teacher, Royal Air Force pilot and finally became a physician. He practiced medicine at Greenwich, NY.
Was sent to Smith's Falls, Ontario to attend high school by his mother.
Attended Normal School, (a photo shows him in the 3d Class group 1914) in Saskatoon then obtained the various teaching certificates over the next few years, taught school in various locations, beginning in 1914, Milestone, Munich, Neudorf, where he was Principal, Ernfold, Lanfbank, before enlisting at Winnipeg in the RFC. He continued to take classes intermittently, there is a photo of him at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon taking classes in Mechanical Drawing and a whole group on a Nature Study Class on the banks of the Saskatchewan River in 1917. He was commissioned 2d Lieutenant after flight school was released in January 1919, went back to teaching at Francis, Stoughten SD691 and possibly Ft. Qu' Appelle before matriculating at Queen's University in 1920. He graduated with an M.D.,C.M. degree in 1926. He completed his internship at United Hospital in Port Chester, NY where he met Edna Frye whom he married.
