Anchorage Daily News December 16, 1997
Kodiak resident, Jack McCullough, 55, died Nov. 21, 1997, in Kodiak following a lengthy illness. A service was held in Kodiak.
Jack was born Feb. 20, 1942, in California. He soon relocated to Alaska and grew up in Cordova. For 20 years, he worked in fishing and in his parents' saloon -- Alaska Bar -- in Cordova.
He enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Germany during the early 1960s, before relocating to Kodiak in the middle of the decade.
He returned to fishing and managed what friends referred to as ''the infamous'' Little Bar. He also tended bar at Beachcombers. ''Jack was loved by many people during good times and bad,'' said friends.
''He was famous for his one-liners, his blue ribbon pickled salmon, and his ability to embarrass everybody out of their 'home pack' of king salmon, king crab and anything other than 'bait', as he called it.''
Preceded in death by his brother, James R. Nichols and his father, Jack Sr.
Survived by his mother, Vivian; brother, William; and son, Christopher.
