Jacob Mumma migrated to Sharpsburg around 1796 and he purchased 324 acres of land for 5,500 pounds from Christopher Orendorff which included what was later called the Mumma farm. Jacob turn over the running of the farm to his youngest son, Samuel Sr. on 8 Jan 1831. He sold him the farm for $20,000 on 30 April 1837. At that time Samuel was Jacob's the only living son. Jacob died in 1848. In 1851 Samuel Mumma, Sr. deeded land to the Church of the Brethren for a church, sometimes called the Dunker Church. Samuel Sr. was the owner of the farm when the Battle of Antietam occurred. In April 1876, 6 months before his death, Samuel Sr. deeded the Mumma farm and land to his son, Henry Clay Mumma and his wife, Barbara. In 1885 they sold land out of the Mumma family to Rozin Fisher.
An interesting story about the Mumma Bible and the Dunker Church is found in the notes of Samuel Mumma, Jr., the son of Samuel Mumma Sr. and half brother of Henry Clay Mumma
