John and his family were living in the Drumbo area when he was
offered work building a railroad in Indiana. John and his wife, with
their two children, moved to Indiana and John went to work building
the railroad. John was in charge of the work gang (men and horses).
One night their horses were stolen. John and the men pursued the
thieves and eventually caught them. During the fight John was wounded
(seriously). They recovered the horses and John made it home to his
wife Hannah where he died as a result of the injury he received
during the fight.
He is buried in Chesterton, Indiana.
