He is was the son of the lare Jonah and Alice (Hickson) Knowles.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
On Aug. 31, 1940, at Winchester, Va., he wed Anna Mary (Mumma) Knowles. She died Dec. 26, 2005.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Arlie Schnarrs.
