Drew W. Mummaw, 85, of Woodcrest Villa, Lancaster passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Lancaster. He was married to Elizabeth "Bette" Gochnauer Mummaw for 50 years.
Formerly of Bruce Ave., Mount Joy, Drew was a masonry contractor and co-owned Alvin and Drew Mummaw, Inc., Ironville for 32 years, retiring in 1992. An active 50-year member of Glossbrenner United Methodist Church, Mount Joy, he served as Lay Leader, taught Sunday School for 50 years, and visited homebound members of the Church. Drew was also a member of the Administrative Board and Staff Parish Relations Committee for many years. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U. S. Army and was a 1943 graduate of Columbia High School. Drew was an active, founding member of the Donegal Fish and Conservation Association, a life member of the Mount Joy Sportsmen's Association and member of Ashara-Casiphia Lodge F&AM, 551, Mount Joy. A woodworker and outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fly-fishing and was a founding member of the Ironville Rod and Gun Club in Potter County, where he shared countless special times with friends and family in what he referred to as "God's Country." Drew touched many lives, never met a stranger, and had a joy for life and for helping others. His faith in God was a legacy of love that taught us grace and gave us courage. Drew will be deeply missed.
Born in Ironville, he was the son of the late Guy K. and Marie Walker Mummaw.
In addition to his wife, Drew will be missed by his children, Lisa M. Davis, Mechanicsburg, Mitchell, husband of Catherine Rudd Mummaw, Mays Landing, NJ, and Karen, wife of Paul Phipps, Reston, VA; six grandchildren, Ashley, Rebecca, Danielle, Andrew, Mikayla, and Daniel; three sisters, Sarah Jane Raber, Elizabethtown, Nancy Marie Mummaw, Landisville, and Mildred wife of Lee Singer, Ironville; and a brother, Alvin husband of Lois Young Mummaw, Ironville. Three sisters, Bertha Haverstick, Frances Mowrer, and Carolyn Zimmerman, and four brothers, Ray, Gordon, Harold, and Guy Mummaw, preceded him in death.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Drew's Memorial Service at Glossbrenner United Methodist Church, 713 Church St., Mount Joy on Monday, May 24, 2010 at 11 AM. There will be no visitation prior to the service; however, Drew's family will greet friends immediately following the service in Fellowship Hall. Interment is private in Ironville Cemetery. It was Drew's wish to have memorial contributions made to Glossbrenner U.M. Church, 713 Church St., Mount Joy, PA 17552. Online condolences to:
